Gord Shmyrko, P.Eng. President

Gord Shmyrko is a professional engineer who graduated in 1990 from the University of Alberta with a Bachelors of Science in Chemical Engineering. Gord has over 15 years of experience in Oil & Gas with Sierra Drilling, Imperial Oil, Shell Canada, and Advantage Energy Services. Advantage Energy was formed with the objective of creating a system that would “capture the last barrel of oil that others left behind”. Gord specialized in artificial lift and traveled from the Cook Inlet to the Gulf of Mexico working in integrated teams to identify and deliver on opportunities to increase value.

In 1997, Tecskor was born with a focus of helping our clients deliver their plans. With Gord’s passion for process and broad experience in oil & gas, he played a key role in developing Tecskor’s expertise and culture. He traveled extensively throughout North America and international countries like Yemen and Nigeria, working in oil & gas and government organizations. Gord led the delivery teams in Nexen and Chevron, as well as the Government of Manitoba and the Government of Alberta, which today are premier clients showcasing Tecskor’s products and solutions.

In 2005, Gord took over as President and COO of Tecskor Corporation with a mission to improve performance and teamwork in organizations throughout the world.
John Burrows, CEO & Co-Chairman

Mr. Burrows brings years of business leadership experience to his role as Tecskor’s chairman. Early in his career, Mr. Burrows held the position of national director of operations research for CP Rail. Since then he has been an active entrepreneur, co-founding Northstar Energy Corporation, Advantage Energy Services, and Tecskor Corporation.

Mr. Burrows has held directorships with Cara Operations, AGT (now Telus) and has been chairman of the Banff Television Foundation, chairman of NovAtel Communications, director of the Calgary Chamber of Commerce, and associate director of the Calgary Exhibition and Stampede Board. Mr. Burrows holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Toronto and has completed graduate studies in Labor Relations at Queen’s University, and in Transportation Operations at Yale.
Earl T. Hickok, P.Eng. Founder & Co-Chairman

Mr. Hickok is a professional engineer and has over 30 years of experience in the upstream oil and gas industry with a broad experience base of operations, engineering, management and board of directors experience. He is a member of APEGGA and holds both a Bachelor of Engineering Degree from Lakehead University in Ontario and an Engineering Technology Diploma from Red River College in Manitoba. His career started as a field technologist in the Esso Redwater, oilfield in 1979 for one year and then after graduating from engineering back to Calgary from 1983-1989 in various operational and engineering roles with Esso Resources in western Canada and the north. From 1989 -1991 he lead an Exxon worldwide project at Exxon Production Research in Houston, Texas developing an Artificial Lift Workstation for Exxon affiliates globally.

In 1991 Mr. Hickok co-founded Advantage Energy Services Ltd (AESL). in Calgary, providing consulting services to a wide range of clients primarily in North America and Asia-Pacific regions. In 1997 Mr. Hickok founded a second company named Tecskor Corporation to provide high tech software to help organizations manage their enterprise portfolio more effectively.

He joined the Argo Energy Board of Directors in 2003 and stepped down in 2005 when a deal created Sequoia. At that time he joined the TUSK Energy Corporation Board of Directors and was named President in November 2005 with production of 400 boepd. TUSK was grown to over 5,000 boe/d and sold to the US Teachers Pension fund from New York in April 2009. He stayed for 1 year to help integrate the company into Marble Point Energy and left in March 2010 to found TSO Energy Corporation.

Mr. Hickok was elected to be a Society of Petroleum Engineers, Distinguished Lecturer in 1996 on the topic of Technology in Production Operations, travelling around the globe on a speaking tour. In 1999-2002 Mr. Hickok was asked to be a member of the Alberta ICT Strategy which lead to the Alberta SuperNet implementation in 2000 and then was named chairman of the Alberta e-health initiative by the Ralph Klein government from 2000-2002.

Mr. Hickok was awarded the 2005 Distinguished Alumni award from Red River College in Winnipeg and asked to speak to the 2005 graduating classes. Also in 2005 Mr. Hickok received a Calgary Award from the Mayor of Calgary for donating his software from Tecskor Corporation to Not-for-profit organizations in Calgary.
